Setting: A log cabin with a roaring fire and two couches facing each other. A table sits between them with a tray of tea and various sweet treats.
Ambrosia: I’m pleased you could join us, Sir Grey, Lady Grey, and Lady Maria. I do hope the refreshments are to your liking.
Lady Grey: Hmpf! It’s Earl Grey, actually. He’s not a baron! And she is not a lady!
Earl Grey: Never mind that, my dear. Yes, the refreshments look delightful!
Ambrosia: I’m happy to hear it. But I do hope I haven’t offended any of you. I have always been raised to use such a term of address. Otherwise, I would feel quite rude.
Wildfire: Who cares? Don’t know what all these fancy titles have to do with anything.
Lady Grey: I care about good manner a great deal, young… lady. Without civility, we would descend into complete barbarism. Although judging by your appearance, Miss Wildfire, you seem to have no notion of civility whatsoever. Hmpf!
Wildfire: Hah, who needs niceness on a battlefield? If you’re going by appearances, you should be able to see that I’m a warrioress. Or is your eyesight already going bad, granny?
Earl Grey: Don’t speak to my wife like that!
Ambrosia: Oh…oh! S-She doesn’t mean that. Please excuse Lady Wildfire’s hasty words. She is neither accustomed to offering nor receiving pleasantries. But if you’ll be patient, she will come to see that you are full of nothing but good will.
Lady Grey: Hmpf! Very well, I do suppose I am full of good will. Bernie, dear, let us set the perfect example for this… woman. She evidently has much to learn.
Wildfire: Sounds like fun.
Miss Darjeeling: A cup of tea, m’lady, m’lord?
Ambrosia: Ah, if you would like some, allow me to pour it for you. You’re our guests, after all.
Wildfire: Get the interview started already, so we can go home. Don’t know what made you think it was a good idea to invite a bunch of geezers.
Ambrosia: They’re distinguished people from a world I know next to nothing about, but I would love to learn more. I hear all of you hail from Teaside, Lemonshire? Please tell me more.
Earl Grey: Ahhh, Teaside. I do love my home town.
Lady Grey: I’m from Ceylondon, actually. But even a Ceylondoner like me has got a soft spot for Teaside.
Miss Darjeeling: It is said the ocean breeze in Teaside has healing properties. Travellers far and wide come to walk along our promenade to clear their ailments.
Earl Grey: And inevitably, they will stumble upon Café Latte – good for both mind and spirit.
Ambrosia: Café Latte. It sounds like a lovely place! I don’t suppose you could describe what it was like the first time you happened upon it?
Earl Grey: Why, it was such a long time ago, I would’ve been a mere boy! My father often took me there for a hot chocolate after a refreshing seaside stroll.
Lady Grey: I remember my first visit quite well. Do you remember, Bernie?
Earl Grey: Oh, yes! *chuckle*
Lady Grey: I had been entirely unimpressed with Teaside upto that point…from the outside, Café Latte looked small, quaint, but strangely alluring.
Ambrosia: Oh?
Lady Grey: When I stepped inside, I was immediately surrounded by the warm scent of ground coffee. The towering ceiling with large marble pillars made me feel a little dizzy at first. The floor was spread over multiple levels, with cosy corners and a variety of seats. Traditional chairs, leather-covered benches, arm chairs, and even chaise longues (though I dread to think who would ever consider reclining on one of those)! I had never seen anything like it, not even in Ceylondon! That’s when I turned to Bernie and said…
Earl and Lady Grey: “I think I could marry a man like you.”
Earl Grey: At the time I wasn’t sure why she’d said it, but I felt like I was winning her heart at last! I was relieved! I had started to run out of courtship ideas!
Lady Grey: Of course, now he knows I’d loved him all along. I just needed to fall in love with Teaside as well. I was a bit of a Ceylondon snob, I’m afraid!
Earl Grey: Was? *chuckle*
Lady Grey: Alright, alright! I still am! But now I’m a Teaside snob too!
Wildfire: I’m sure you are. Ugh. How much longer is this?
Ambrosia: Ah, the love you have for each other – and for Teaside – truly touches my heart! It would be a shame to keep you here any longer. But before we see the three of you off, is there anything you would like to share with our viewers?
Earl Grey: Aside from a good cup of tea or coffee?
Ambrosia: I don’t know how anyone could resist taking you up on such an offer.
Wildfire: Really? You can’t? Not a real shocker. There’s not a whole lot you’ll say ‘no’ to, is there?
Ambrosia: Again, thank you very much for coming all this way.
Wildfire: Oh, the interview’s ending already? You haven’t even asked them anything interesting yet. Like, when’s their nap time? Have their teeth started falling out yet?
Ambrosia: A-Ah…please enjoy the holidays! Have yourselves a very Merry Christmas. Now, let us take our leave, Lady Wildfire.
Wildfire: Wow, where’s the fire? Afraid I’m going to offend them? Hate to break it to you, but it’s too late for that.
